The brief.
This newly built apartment is part of the Barratt London Ridgeway Views development in Mill Hill near Finchley, London. The new buyer acquired this luxury two bedroom two bathroom flat with typical new build standard interior décor – all clinically white. So the new owner briefed an interior design and home staging company to design the interior decorating to add much needed colour and texture, while retaining its luxury feel throughout.
The interior designers were looking for feature wall panel specialists to translate their interior design ideas into several feature walls in the living room, bedrooms and hallway using wallpaper, paint and wood. Creating these feature wall panels requires experience working with combined materials. Therefore the interior designer was looking for a London interior decorator with attention to detail. So Phantom – North London Painters and Decorators – Feature Wall Panels London – were called in.
Feature Wall Panels London are specialists in creating feature wall panels.
Scope of work.
Before carrying out the work to exceptionally high standard, our feature wall panel decorator studied the interior designer’s drawings and specifications to plan how to turn the interior design ideas into an enviable work of art.
A work of art in Feature Wall Panels London
Once we had our decorating plan we commenced painting all wood mouldings in the chosen colours to match the painted walls in each of the rooms, using an acrylic eggshell to give a little sheen. In the living room the walls were painted Dulux Earl Blue throughout and the wall mouldings installed centrally but creating two wall panels of equal size where we installed lining paper followed by the Sakkarra Labyrinth Cream by Holden Wallpaper.
In the Master Bedroom, the feature wall panel was painted in Dulux Sapphire Salute and the remaining walls in Dulux Earl Blue. We then created a four wall panel design with wood wall mouldings previously painted in same wall colour.
The guest bedroom also had a feature wallpaper panel using Yelena Wallcovering Macaroon vinyl wallpaper by Villa Nova wallpaper, separated by wood wall mouldings and cross-lined. The side panels were painted in Dulux Tranquil Dawn and remaining walls in Dulux Frosted Steel.
The Dulux Frosted Steel colour theme continued into the hallway where we created three feature wall panels. Each of the feature walls were painted in Dulux Earl Blue with matching Reed light hardwood moulding. Especially, the Frosted Steel made nice reappearances between each of the feature wall paint panels and upon entrance to the apartment.
The challenges.
While this project was diverse and vibrant, it had its stimulating challenges including:
- The wall panel design we created in the Master bedroom using wood wall moulding was the first time for our decorator had installed mouldings. Successfully too!
- We had to co-ordinate works around the electrician who had carried out some electrical works, particularly relocation and additional power sockets, pendants and switches.
- The geometrical wallpaper pattern was a little confusing to align each time we installed one length. But experience, confidence and patience each contributed to the success of this feature wall project.
- Without informing us, the owner decided to bring in a team of joiners to assemble and install a large flat-pack wardrobe while we were installing the wall panels in the same room!
With nearly 30-years residential interior decorating experience we had successfully overcame all feature wall panels challenges.

The result.
Using feature wall panels London professionals with extensive experience really can make a difference to your feature wall project.
- The feature wall paint panels oozes colour and warmth on entering the apartment through the hallway. Complemented with the right dose of Dulux Frosted Steel to break each wall panel. Especially around the external corners, turning a rather bland white hallway into colourful living space.
- The Dulux Earl Blue in the open dining area near the white kitchen shows clean sharp lines to not only demonstrate professionalism and skill but bold contrasting colour.
- The geometrical wallpaper panel contrasts remarkably well, not just in terms of colour and pattern but texture too, as well as creating zones in a large living area.
- The headboard feature wallpaper in the guest bedroom reflects under the abundance of natural light giving some sparkle and texture to a room that was especially white.
- The master bedroom feature wall makes a bold statement using paint and wood, contrasting between matt and sheen, highlighting, albeit rather subtle, the wood moulding.
- And important of all, a happy new owner living in a more homely and ambient apartment with jaw-dropping views.
