The project.
Phantom – Hospitality Painting and Decorating specialists were contracted by an Essex painting and decorating company to assist with completing the full internal student accommodation painting for Queen Mary University of London, at their Mile End East London campus.
Carrying out a large scale University painting and decorating project during the student summer term requires capacity and considerable resources which the Essex painting and decorating contractor did not have, so additional East London painters and decorators were drafted in because the deadline for this Essex painting contractor was fast approaching.
Specification.
Looking at the photographs, it may seem a relatively simple case of painting and decorating each student room. Yes, quite, but each of the rooms were no more than 6 square metres, fully furnished and with fitted wardrobe and vanity units, that should have been removed previously, so space was rather limited.
All ceilings retained their 70’s style textured paint, otherwise known as ‘Artex’ in those days, which we painted in Dulux Supermatt Pure Brilliant White. The walls throughout each of the student pods, including student bedrooms, kitchen and dining and communal corridor, in Dulux Swansdown Vinyl Matt Emulsion – a light grey, which arguably, is the new but bearable Magnolia of today! For now at least.
For the woodwork our East London painter decorator applied Dulux Flint Satinwood, an acrylic eggshell. Our East London painter further modernised the student rooms by painting the hardwood edge to the three shelves and notice pin board.
The result.
When we arrived on site, our East London painters and decorators were greeted with a 1970’s explosion of Magnolia and Dark Brown. It was clear that these student accommodation blocks had not seen modern interior décor for a long time, and the painting and decorating of the student hall of residences was long overdue.
We think the Dulux Swansdown makes such a significant transformation to the student accommodation block. The Dulux Flint Satinwood on all woodwork makes a good addition to light grey Swansdown concealing the usual scuffs to woodwork by University students, as well as providing hard-wearing protection of the woodwork and scrubbable properties making it ideal for student accommodation. This new student room interior decorating makes it relaxing for the hardworking hard partying student.
…I have no hesitation in recommending Jonathan as a highly skilled and conscientious professional with a high standard of workmanship and work ethics. He was meticulous in installing some very complex wall coverings in some challenging spaces and his painting skills are also flawless.
